Many people would like to diminish wrinkles and other signs of aging in the face, or perhaps add volume to facial features such as the lips and cheeks, without having to undergo invasive surgery and a long recovery process. As we age, we not only start to exhibit more wrinkles and creases along the face, but we may also start to lose facial volume and take on a sunken appearance in the cheeks. Facial fat grafting can fill in lines and wrinkles, augment the lips for a fuller, more sensual appearance, and add volume to cheeks which may have taken on a hollow or sunken appearance. The procedure begins with fat cells taken from a donor area of your body, usually the abdomen, buttocks, hips, thighs, or jowls. This is done by liposuction – so by choosing facial fat grafting to enhance your facial appearance, you are getting the added benefit of reducing excess fat in another area of your body. Once the fat cells have been harvested, they are cleansed and concentrated. Then, the fat cells are injected into the areas of the face that have been targeted for rejuvenation.

Results from facial fat grafting are often immediately apparent. Although there will likely be some swelling and bruising in the treated areas after fat injection, this is temporary and should fade over the next few days. Most patients can return to normal daily activities either later the same day or the day after treatment.
