Revision Breast Surgery
Dr. Marc Lussier at Town Center Plastic Surgery offers revision breast surgery and implant exchange for our patients in the Valencia and Santa Clarita, California region. This procedure can be very beneficial for: patients who have had saline implants for a number of years and would like to replace them with silicone; for those who are dissatisfied with the overall outcome of a previous breast surgery; and for those who are experiencing complications from a previous breast surgery. Patients who would like to have their breast implants removed altogether can also have this accomplished with revision breast surgery.
Breast revision surgery (also known as secondary breast surgery) can be performed using a number of different techniques, depending on your ultimate goals. Saline implants can be deflated and removed through the same incision point used in the previous surgery. Any scar tissue that has formed inside the breast will also be removed at this time. If you are undergoing a saline-to-silicone implant exchange, Dr. Lussier can place the silicone implants immediately after removal of the saline implants, or he can perform the procedure in stages if you prefer. If you are having silicone implants removed, this procedure may be a bit more involved as some of the surrounding tissue and muscle may need to be removed as well. However, both of these procedures can typically be performed as an outpatient.
Recovery from revision breast surgery depends on the extent of your procedure. Some bruising and swelling is to be expected after surgery, and implant exchange patients may require a compression bra to be worn for a few weeks following the procedure. Although strenuous activities and anything that may harm the breasts should be avoided for at least six weeks after revision breast surgery, most patients are able to return to normal daily routines within a week.
