Transumbilical Augmentation
The Transumbilical Breast Augmentation (TUBA) procedure is the ideal option for patients worried about the appearance of scarring around the breast. In TUBA procedures, breast implants are placed through a small incision made in the belly button. This innovative procedure can also result in less recovery time since it is performed endoscopically using small instruments and a tiny incision. Dr. Marc Lussier was trained to perform this procedure by the originator of the Transumbilical Breast Augmentation, Dr. Gerald Johnson.
Please contact Town Center Plastic Surgery for more information on TUBA (Transumbilical Breast Augmentation) from our Valencia and Santa Clarita, CA-area practice.
During Transumbilical Breast Augmentation, Dr. Lussier will make a single incision on the inside of the navel, and then gently create a tunnel under the skin which extends to the breast. After creating surgical pockets to house the implants and determining the implant size with tissue expanders, saline implant shells are inserted and then filled. With TUBA procedures, only saline implants can be used because they can be inflated after implantation, which allows for the smaller initial incision. Any scarring from surgery is typically completely hidden inside the navel area.
Minimal post-operative downtime is needed as most patients return to normal daily activity in less than one week. Some bruising and swelling may accompany the recovery period, but with TUBA procedures, this is typically less in severity when compared with traditional breast augmentation techniques. Patients should be mindful that routine mammograms should still be performed after breast augmentation surgery.
TUBA procedures can be performed as an outpatient and usually take under two hours to complete.
