Santa Clarita Valley Plastic Surgeon - Male Breast Reduction

Male breast enlargement, called Gynecomastia, is a fairly common problem. It can be embarrassing at the beach or at the gym because enlarged male breasts impart a sense of femininity that guys can't stand. This is a hidden problem, which makes a man reluctant to take off his shirt at the beach or to wear tight-fitting shirts. Gynecomastia is caused by either excess fat, excess glandular tissue, or a combination of both. There are important medical causes such as altered hormone levels, tumors or drug use, which can cause gynecomastia. After these causes have been ruled out, there is a simple surgical solution with small incisions and often-remarkable results.
The mainstay surgical treatment for Gynecomastia is liposuction. The procedure takes 90 minutes and is usually performed with local anesthesia and sedation. An anesthetic fluid is injected into the breast after which the fat and glandular tissue is removed with a liposuction machine. To remove the fibrous breast tissue, a cutting cannula or ultrasound energy is used. The final key step in the procedure is to lower the breast fold from the chest wall to allow the breast skin to re-contour over the pectoral muscles. I usually use two small incisions that heal extremely well, with only a small scar visible.
Post-operatively, a compression garment is worn (hidden under the clothes) continuously for a month. The patient can return to work 3-5 days after the surgery, and resume his normal physical activity after four weeks.
I am very enthusiastic about this procedure, as the results can be dramatic and the down time minimal.
