Bakersfield Cosmetic Surgery - Liquid Facelift Procedure

By Marc R Lussier, MD, FACS
Board Certified Plastic Surgeon

The hottest trend in plastic surgery is the "Liquid Lift." It is a nonsurgical facial enhancement that combines muscle paralysis and soft tissue filling to significantly reduce facial aging. Botox® Cosmetic paralyzes the facial muscles that cause wrinkles, and a filler smooths them out.

The lifting part of the procedure is performed by placing small amounts of Botox Cosmetic into strategic muscles around the eyes, forehead, and mouth. The relaxation of these muscles allows a lifting of the brow and corners of the mouth. The fillers then plump up the lips, nasolabial folds, and forehead wrinkles, which softens the signs of aging in those areas. Of note, the combination of Botox Cosmetic and a filler material in the same anatomic location appears to add to the longevity of the result.

The results last several months, but will require repeat treatments to maintain a youthful appearance. In ideal candidates, the results should last several months. Length of results will depend on the quality and elasticity of your skin. Smokers and those with severe sun damage should expect less of a result. Older patients with significant excess inelastic skin are not a candidate for this procedure, but rather would require a surgical facelift with fat transfer for more complete rejuvenation.

The "Liquid Lift" procedure takes between 30 and 60 minutes, and uses only local anesthesia. The results can be remarkable, especially when combined with aggressive skin care.
